Lunch and Learn: Why Mental Health Matters… Now More Than Ever | Healthy New Albany | April 2022

Our April Lunch and Learn topic was: “Why Mental Health Matters… Now More Than Ever!”

The last 2 years have been trying! If you or your children can relate to any of these feelings: burnout, stress, lack of focus, anxiety around social interactions – you are not alone!

In this Lunch and Learn, our panel addressed the current mental health crisis, looked back at how the pandemic has exacerbated mental health challenges, ways that both children and adults have been affected, and how mental health can be better addressed in the future.

Points To Remember

  • Dr. Yeager: “The negative screams but the positive whispers.” We all have the capability to be intentional with being positive.
  • Dr. Bignall’s 5 Buckets To Fill:
    1. Balanced Eating
    2. Physical Activity
    3. Socializing
    4. Success (be sure to find some wins)
    5. Healthy Sleeping Hygiene
  • Dr. Koterba: “Get rid of care-giver guilt! We’re all doing our very best. Give yourself some grace.” Also deep breathing is profoundly impactful and beneficial. In a moment of panic, anxiety, stress, etc it can “lift the veil” and help you to see more clearly, calm yourself, remember things, etc.
