Energy Efficiency Programs through MORPC

MORPC offers home energy efficiency and safety services at no cost to income-eligible residents to help keep them warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, all while lowering energy bills. MORPC’s programs can provide free furnace tune up or replacement, free wall and attic insulation, free replacement refrigerator and light bulbs, etc. These programs are available all year to Franklin County residents and are provided at no cost to income-eligible clients.

Helping Hands Health & Wellness Center

Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center is the closest free clinic to New Albany. They have weekly TB testing on Tuesdays (11am-1pm) and a walk-in clinic on Tuesdays (8am-9am) and Thursdays (3pm-4:30pm). They also offer a free Women’s health and cancer screening clinic and physicals one Thursday each month from 11am-2pm (check the calendar for dates). This student-run clinic serves anyone for free regardless of financial, insurance, or immigration status. Physicians CareConnections

Physicians CareConnection is a volunteer-based, charitable organization that helps coordinate care for vulnerable adults in Central Ohio. They facilitate the Physicians Free Clinic, a free medical and dental clinic on Mondays 5:30pm-9pm. Their Step One for Healthy Pregnancy program connects pregnant mothers with the medical care they need. Social Support Services help families stay strong and healthy.

Lower Lights Christian Health Center

Lower Lights Christian Health Center provides holistic care to both insured and uninsured people of all ages. New Albany Food Pantry English Conversation Partners 

Conversation Partners pairs an English-language learner with a fluent speaker to help our clients improve their language skills. This program is for pantry clients only and requires that they have enough English to engage in basic conversation. Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services

ETSS works with low income individuals and families from over 60 countries to assist them on their journey to self-sufficiency and independence in Central Ohio. Columbus Literacy Council

Free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages ) levels 1 – 4 are offered, as well as, English to Excel (E2E) classes which focus on functional literacy for everyday life and English for Occupations (E4O) classes, focused on teaching English to help people find work and attain self-sufficiency. Both E2E and E4O have a $50 registration and assessment fee which includes textbooks and materials. In addition to in-person or virtual instruction, Columbus Literacy Council offers 1-on-1 tutoring for their students. Dominican Learning Center

The Dominican Learning Center is offering ESL classes that cost $45 for a year. The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program is designed for adults who do not have a high school diploma but who want to learn or improve reading, writing and/or math skills. The learning center also provides Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation for adults who did not graduate from high school and want to earn a high school equivalency diploma. Additionally, citizenship test preparation services are available.

Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio

Offers mediation services on a sliding scale fee. They conduct mediation for low-income clients regardless of their ability to pay. Mediation is a method of resolving conflict that involves disputing parties sitting down together with a skilled impartial individual called a mediator who helps them work out a voluntary solution to the problem that is acceptable to everyone involved. You can contact them by filling out their mediation request form online. If your contact involves an eviction, please call their office at 614-228-7191 and leave a call-back number as well as your court date if one is scheduled. Community Mediation Services has mediators available daily at eviction court. They are located at the entrance to Room 11A of the Franklin County Municipal Court.
