SUMMARY:Music Together | Spring Session (11:30)
DESCRIPTION:Music is fundamental to the human experience and there are a variety of studies which indicate that music can enhance our health. So Healthy New Albany loves including “Music Together®” as part of our community programs\, as it provides another opportunity to cultivate and inspire healthy living in our community. \nThese weekly\, 45-minute mixed-age family classes include songs\, rhythmic chants\, movement\, instrument play\, and of course lots of fun! These activities are presented as informal\, non-performance-oriented musical experiences- developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers\, regardless of their own musical ability. \nEach week\, a trained Music Together teacher leads the class in singing\, dancing\, and playing songs that range from tender lullabies to boisterous jams using child-friendly percussion instruments. Our award-winning music\, illustrated songbook\, and other print and online resources will help you continue the music-making fun at home and nurture your child’s musical growth—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. Like parenting\, making music requires no previous experience or expertise\, just a willingness to get down on the floor and get silly with your child! \nIncluded in registration: a CD\, an MP3 downloadable version of the song collection\, a Songbook\, a new family music development booklet\, a Music Together growth chart\, access to the Music Together Family Music Zone\, and the free Hello Everybody app! \nAges:\n• 9mn – 6 years-old (accompanied by an adult) \nLocation:\n• Philip Heit Center (150 W. Main St. New Albany\, OH)\n• Conference Room on the first floor \nSchedule:\n• Tuesdays | 11:30 am – 12:15 pm\n•March 17 – May 19 (9-week series)\n*No class March 31 \nRegistration Info:\n• $195 for initial child\n• $110 for additional child\n(registration fee includes all supplies) \nAbout the Instructor:\nNicole White comes from a long line of teachers that not only value education but believe ALL children can learn. She has a B.S. in elementary education and a M.Ed. in Reading education. Nicole holds special certifications in reading and working with dyslexic students and has worked with students from preschool through the university setting. She enjoys combining her love of music with her passion for education to create an inviting musical learning environment for your family! \nAs a stay at home mama Nicole has experienced first-hand the joy and delight that Music Together® offers by taking her own children. After her first free demo in a baby store she quickly obtained her Music Together training\, became a registered teacher and had her family participating in class. She found it such a support for when she decided to stay home with her first child. Quitting a full time job to stay home can be an isolating decision and she needed a connection. As Nicole went to class every week she knew she was providing her child with a quality class and would get to connect with other parents. Sometimes just having a conversation with another adult was so encouraging. \nClasses are such an inspiring place for families to interact. Nicole counts it a blessing every semester that she teaches that families allow her to be a part of the memories they make with each other! \nTo learn more about Nicole and the Wholey Sisters Music Together group\, check out their website: wholeysisters.com. \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Music Together: Winter Session (11:30am)
DESCRIPTION:Music is fundamental to the human experience and there are a variety of studies which indicate that music can enhance our health. So Healthy New Albany loves including “Music Together®” as part of our community programs\, as it provides another opportunity to cultivate and inspire healthy living in our community. \nThese weekly\, 45-minute mixed-age family classes include songs\, rhythmic chants\, movement\, instrument play\, and of course lots of fun! SUMMARY:Community Health Talk | Mild Cognitive Decline: What It Is and What You Can Do About It
DESCRIPTION:Community Health Talk:\nMild Cognitive Decline: What It Is and What You Can Do About It\nMany people wonder where “mild cognitive decline” fits between normal aging and dementia. Dr. Omar Ahmad breaks down what it means\, shares what emerging neuroscience reveals about the brain’s ability to grow at any age\, and explains why this discovery is vital to both cognitive health and long-term protection. In partnership with Dr. David Whitt\, an internal medicine physician with Diley Medical Group\, we are raising awareness about early cognitive changes and how proactive care can make a difference. Together\, Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Whitt will discuss how to talk with your primary care doctor about cognitive concerns and how to access available resources\, and will answer your questions live. \nWhen:\n• Monday\, January 12 | 6:00 – 7:00pm \nWhere:\n• Philip Heit Center (150 W. Main St\, New Albany\, OH)\n• Conference Room on the 1st Floor\n• The parking lot and main entrance are located behind the building \nFee:\n• Free to attend\, but please register online since space is limited. \nAbout the Instructors:\nDr. Omar Ahmad is a neuroscientist and computer scientist\, and the world’s leading expert and designer of cognitive and motor strengthening—and hippocampal brain-growing—virtual experiences. He is the inventor of Neuro Animation and its integrated therapies for the treatment and prevention of neurological and cognitive-motor disease and decline. His work has revolutionized cognitive and motor improvements for stroke\, Parkinson’s\, Alzheimer’s and dementia\, and other neurological diseases and disorders where hippocampal atrophy plays a role. Previously\, Dr. Ahmad was the director of innovative engineering in the Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine\, and director of the Kata Design Studio\, which he founded at Johns Hopkins to push cognitive-motor disease treatment outcomes beyond standard of care and historical plateaus. Dr. Ahmad designed the execution strategy at Johns Hopkins to implement cognitively beneficial therapies across the continuum of care\, from in-patient to custom-built outpatient facilities centered around his technology. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins and has been featured in National Geographic and The New Yorker. \nDr. David Whitt earned his Chemistry degree from The Ohio State University and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University. \nAges:\n• Infant – 5-years-old (accompanied by an adult) \nLocation:\n• Philip Heit Center (150 W. Main St. New Albany\, OH)\n• Conference Room on the first floor \nSchedule:\n• Tuesdays | 9:30 – 10:15 am\n• Dec. 2 – Dec. 16 (3-week series) \nRegistration Info:\n• $80 for initial child\n• $30 for additional child\n(registration fee includes all supplies) \nAbout the Instructor:\nNicole White comes from a long line of teachers that not only value education but believe ALL children can learn.

SUMMARY:Community Health Talk: Let’s Talk About Pelvic Floor Health
DESCRIPTION:The pelvic floor is a bowl of muscles that supports the pelvic organs and serves an important role in bowel\, bladder\, uterine\, and vaginal support. When working properly\, most individuals do not even realize they have a pelvic floor; however\, when weakened by variety of factors including increasing age\, multiple pregnancies/deliveries\, chronic straining\, heavy weightlifting and more\, issues with these organs (and their function) can arise. Half of women will experience a pelvic floor disorder in their lifetime\, including bowel and bladder control issues and/or pelvic organ prolapse. These conditions can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life and can result in patients who suffer in silence due to embarrassment or lack of clarity on who to discuss these conditions with. The purpose of this lecture is to discuss what the pelvic floor is\, how to keep it healthy\, and options for when it is not working properly. Dr. Hickman wants to talk about it\, so you can too! \nWhen:\n• Wednesday\, September 24 | 6:00 – 7:00pm \nWhere:\n• Philip Heit Center (150 W. Main St\, New Albany\, OH)\n• Meeting Room on the 1st Floor\n• The parking lot and main entrance are located behind the building \nFee:\n• Free to attend\, but please register online since space is limited. \nAbout Healthy New Albany:\nOur mission is to Cultivate & Inspire Healthy Living! Our Community Health Talks\, lectures with local speakers on topics related to health and wellness\, are just one way we strive to inspire health and wellness in our community. To learn more about all our work\, visit healthynewalbany.org \nAbout the Instructor:\nDr. Lisa Hickman is a double-board certified Urogynecologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and an associate professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She serves as the director of the Childbirth Pelvic Floor Disorders Clinic\, a center of excellence for women with birth trauma and pelvic floor disorders in pregnancy or after delivery\, and she holds leadership positions for a variety of national and international organizations. Dr. Hickman trained at the Cleveland Clinic for both her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency and fellowship in Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery\, after which returned back to her medical school alma mater in 2020 to serve as faculty. She is passionate about the care of women across their lifespan who experience pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse\, urinary incontinence\, bowel control issues\, and a variety of other pelvic concerns. Dr. Hickman is an advocate for teaching\, having received multiple awards\, and believes educating others is important in counteracting the stigma associated with these private\, often embarrassing\, under-recognized conditions. \nREGISTER NOW
